Terms of Use

By creating a Checkmates account you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app.

1. Who can use Checkmates

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum digital consent age where you live) and able to enter a binding agreement. One account per person. Keep your password private — you're responsible for activity on your account.

2. Your content

You keep ownership of the photos, comments and challenges you post. You grant Checkmates a limited licence to store and display that content to the group members you share it with, purely so the app works. You confirm you have the right to post everything you upload.

3. Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users

There is no tolerance for content or behaviour that is:

sexual, nude or sexually suggestive;
harassing, bullying, threatening or hateful toward any person or group;
violent, self-harming, or encouraging dangerous or illegal acts;
illegal drug use, or content involving minors in any unsafe way;
spam, scams, impersonation, or someone else's photos posted as your own;
real-money gambling or betting of any kind.

Every photo, comment and member can be reported from inside the app using the "…" menu, and any member can block another member instantly. We review every report within 24 hours, remove content that breaks these rules, and remove the accounts of users who post it.

4. Challenge "stakes"

Stakes on a challenge are social forfeits between friends — cooking dinner, doing the dishes, buying the coffees. Checkmates does not process, hold or facilitate money, wagers or anything of monetary value, and using the app to organise real-money betting is a breach of these terms.

5. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account. Deleting removes your profile, photos, comments, votes and points permanently. We may suspend or remove accounts that breach these terms.

6. No warranty and limits

Checkmates is provided "as is", without warranties. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the app. Nothing here limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law.

7. Changes and contact

We may update these terms; material changes will be surfaced in the app. Questions or reports: support@checkmates.app.
